Sarah Braden

Founder of Our Terminal

In 2015, Sarah Braden sat beside her mom as she received a devastating terminal cancer diagnosis. Over the following five months, Sarah and her family experienced deep sorrow and debilitating grief, while also seeing the hope, peace, and joy that God brought in Nancy Lanford’s last chapter of life.

Following her mom’s death, Sarah continued her roles as a stay-at-home mom, occasional substitute teacher, and volunteer with her church’s youth ministry. As you will discover in Our Terminal’s debut devotional book, Nancy first planted the seed of turning Sarah’s journal into a published book, but over the next couple years, Sarah’s heart began to stir in yet another direction.

Knowing many other individuals and families were facing what she had been through with her own family, Sarah yearned to create a space where people could receive hope-filled resources when a terminal illness enters their world. After a time of praying and dreaming, Our Terminal was born as a nonprofit organization.

As you walk through your own terminal illness journey, Sarah’s prayer is that you will experience peace within the sorrow, joy within the pain, and hope within the heartache. And, most of all, that you will know you are loved, seen, and cherished by God as you walk this last chapter of life either for yourself or with someone you love.

Sarah and her husband, Michael, met on a blind date while students at Texas A&M University and have spent their married life raising three daughters in seven different cities stretching two continents. They currently live in Bryan, Texas.

Psalm 23:1-4

“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me."
